Hello Everyone,
Here is what we covered today:
Class Period 2:
1) We went over all the Weslandia Part 2 vocabulary, from #1-30:
1. tuber (n.)- an underground stem that is short, thick, and round. New stems that grow above the ground can grow from buds on tubers. Potatoes are tubers.
2. seasoning (n.)- something that is added to food to make it taste better. Salt, herbs, and spices are seasonings
3. aromatic (adj.)- of or having an aroma, esp. a fragrant or sweet one
4. tend (v.)-to care for or watch over; look after
5. bark (n.)- the outside cover of the trunks, branches, and roots of woody plants
6. devise (v.)- to invent or think out
7. spinning wheel (n.)- a simple machine for spinning thread or yarn that has a single spindle driven by a large wheel
8. loom (n.)- a device or machine for weaving cloth
9. reflect (v.)- to throw back from a surface
10. robe (n.)-a loose gown worn as a covering; bathrobe
11. stalk (n.)- a plant's main stem
12. fiber (n.)- a small, thin part of a plant, animal, or mineral that is shaped like a thread
13. myriad (adj./n.)- a large but indefinite number
14. scornful (adj.)- full of or expressing scorn; contemptuous
15. grudgingly (adv.)- reluctant or unwilling
16. mortar (n.)- a heavy bowl in which things are ground or pounded into powder with a tool called a pestle
17. tangy (adj.)- having a tart or acid taste like lemon juice or vinegar; a special sour flavor
18. suntan lotion (n.)-a thick liquid for rubbing on the skin in order to turn brown after lying under the sun
19. mosquito repellent (n.)- something that repels or drives away mosquitoes; usually skin lotion.
20. former (adj.)-happening in or having to do with the past; previous
21. admit (v.)- to tell the truth; confess
22. segment (n.)- one of the parts into which something is or can be separated
23. adopt (v.)- to take on and use as one's own
24. domain (n.)- the land owned or under the control of a single ruler or government
25. innovation (n.)-a new idea, product, or way to do something
26. spectator (n.)- one that watches or observes
27. scope (v.)- the range or extent of one’s view or thoughts
28. platform (n.)- a raised, level surface used as a place to work, perform, or speak to an audience
29. constellation (n.)- a group of stars in the sky that is thought to look like, and is named after, an animal, object, or person
30. morale (n.)- the state of mind of a person or group; spirit

Homework:
1) Vocabulary #1-15 x4, definition x1
2) Parents should sign the student's test and the student should make corrections (except for the blank answers in the listening and writing section) and give it back to me tomorrow, September 10. The Thursday practice worksheet should be corrected and handed back also.
