Hello Everyone,
There was no class today. To study for the test, I have made the definitions simpler. Please study the new definitions below. Only these first 20 words from the vocabulary may be tested. I will review also review them before the test tomorrow.
1. Pile | A group of things placed on top of each other |
2. Stump | The part of something (like a tree, tooth, or leg) left after most of it is gone |
3. Screen | To hide or protect something |
4. Hay | Dried grass used as food for animals |
5. Engineering | The work of designing and building machines, roads, or buildings using science |
6. Concentrate | To focus your attention on something |
7. Proud | Feeling happy because you or someone did something good |
8. Purely | Only; nothing else |
9. Aesthetically | In a way that is related to beauty or art |
10. Pleasing | Giving a happy or satisfying feeling |
11. Practical | Useful in real life, not just ideas or thoughts |
12. Tame | Not wild; trained to be calm and safe |
13. Fairly | In a way that is not too much or too little |
14. Enthusiasm | A strong feeling of excitement or interest |
15. I bet | I am sure (that) |
16. Fade | To slowly lose color or strength |
17. Ponder | To think about something carefully |
18. Possibility | A chance that something may happen or be true |
19. Drag | To pull something slowly, usually on the ground |
20. Undergo | To experience something, especially something difficult or that changes you. |
Also, ten of the multi-syllabic words on Page 320 of RWN will be tested for their synonyms. You can use the fill-in-the blanks questions to develop the meanings of some of the words:
