Wednesday, October 30 Classes

Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Period 2 Reading Street, Pages 110-114: I talked about plays, settings, and characters, and we began to read the unit story "Stormi Giovanni".  Homework: 1) Complete any Review Worksheets that are late. 2) Type up the Friendly Letter and give it to me on USB or email (michael@hmps.tp.edu.tw) as soon as possible. 3) OKSensay Reading Comprehension assignment (same as last week's). 4) Log onto Savvas and complete the reading assignments. I assigned the reading "Stormi Giovanni." Students have until next Friday, November 1 to complete this reading.

Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Period 1 RWN, Pages 289-290:  We did exercises with words containing the -ible and -able suffixes.  Page 289:We circled the words that were spelled wrongly and wrote their correct spellings. Page 290: We answered questions about specific parts of a paragraph we read. We have three more questions to finish. Homework: 1) Study for the Written Test. It is tomorrow, October 29. 2) Complete any Review Worksheets that are late. 3) Type up the Friendly Letter and give it to me on USB or email (michael@hmps.tp.edu.tw) as soon as possible.  4) OKSensay Reading Comprehension assignment. 5) Log onto Savvas and complete the reading assignments. Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Period 2: 1) I collected Friday's homework, the Midterm 1 Review #1 worksheet. 2) I collected the "Friendly Letter" writing assignments. Only one student submitted this to me today. 3) We worked on RWN, page 284. Friday, October 18 Classes

Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Period 1: 1) I discussed the format of the Midterm 1 Exam by going over the scope in class:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-Pjkl78YCpVCHdlngBct3ZQ_aFUMqGoZ?rtpof=true&usp=drive_fs 2) I went over all the words from RWN, Page 284 again. However, we had no time to start filling in the blanks. 3) I talked about the final draft of the Friendly Letter and how the students need to type them up and give them to me on a USB drive by Monday. All the students got back their marked letters and are ready to start typing their final drafts. 4) I gave out a practice worksheet for the Midterm 1 Exam. The worksheet uses vocabulary and reading comprehension from the Weslandia story in the students' Reading Street Books. Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Period 1: 1) I showed students how to log onto Savvas ( https://www.savvasrealize.com ) to find textbook material for the class.  2) We played a couple of warm-up games on Savvas with the unit vocabulary, including a Trivia game and a shoot the correct vocabulary game.  3)I showed an introductory video for the semester units and a video for the latest unit on Savvas.  3) Reading Street pages 104-107: I talked about what generalizing means in stories and how we can use this tool in our readings. We started reading the short story "First Day Without Joy". Class Period 2: Reading Street pages 107-109: We finished the story "First Day Without Joy" and I asked students questions about the reading. I then taught students how to learn unfamiliar words using context clues, and we read another short story: "Trouble in TV Land". Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Period 0 1) I finished introducing the new vocabulary for this week. 2) RWN, page 282: We used some of this week's vocabulary to match them with sentences about the words. Class Period 7 1) RWN, page 283: We learned about singular and plural indefinite (no definite antecedent) and reflexive (action of verb reflected back on the subject) pronouns and when and how to use them. Indefinite pronouns are singular if their verbs are singular and plural if their verbs are plural. Reflexive pronouns are singular and plural based on the subject they are referring back to. 2) I collected the RWN books for marking. Homework:  1) Vocabulary #11-20 x4, definition x1 2) Type up the friendly letter with the corrections and give to me by Thursday. 3) Sensay Weekly Assignment. Monday, October 14 Classes

Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Period 2: 1) I handed back the test and the worksheet from last Wednesday. 2) I handed back the "Friendly Letter" writing assignment and informed the students that they need to type up the letter on the computer and print it out for me or give to me on a USB drive. However, a USB drive will be preferable since I could print it out myself with the school's letterhead. 3) I talked about Sensay and told they students that they have a new assignment this week and to complete the past weeks' assignments. 4) I went over the new vocabulary for the new story "The Stormi Giovanni Club". This page contains a word box and I went over all of the homophones in the word box and their meanings. We then filled in the blanks to sentences that used homophones. Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Periods 0 and 7 Reading Street pages 82-90 - We started reading the story “Exploding Ants”, which talks about the survival methods of various animals, including ants and owls. I pointed out the vocabulary words and asked questions as we read. Homework:  1) Vocabulary #11-20 x4, definition x1 2) There are a few students who have not done the letter yet, so this needs to be completed for homework if not finished. We will likely write the second drafts on Wednesday or Friday. 3) Sensay Weekly Assignment. Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Period 1: 1) We reviewed the Week 6 "Exploding Ants" Vocabulary. Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Period 0: 1) I gave back Thursday's worksheets and collected homework and writing assignments. 2) RWN page 269 - Our next story, "Exploding Ants", involves learning about animal bodies and behaviors. On this page, we looked at the parts of a grasshopper and described how they can be used. Class Period 7: RWN page 270-271 Page 270: I described the parts of a letter using the example in the book and we completed the questions. Page 271: Matching vocabulary words to their definitions and selecting the word that is closest to a given vocabulary word.
