Hello Everyone, Here's what we covered in class: Class Period 1 1) I went over the simplified version of the definitions with the class. 2) We went over Part B and Part C of the practice exam. Class Period 2 1) Took the Week 14 Unit Test. 2) We read the first paragraph of the "Skunk Ladder" on page 176. The students should finish reading the story on their own. Hello Everyone, There was no class today. To study for the test, I have made the definitions simpler. Please study the new definitions below. Only these first 20 words from the vocabulary may be tested. I will review also review them before the test tomorrow. 1. Pile A group of things placed on top of each other 2. Hello Everyone, Here's what we covered in class: Class Period 2 Reading Street, Pages 171-172 Page 171: Read “The Day of Two Adventures” about a family of three people who went on a hiking adventure together. One of them, Gramps, had another extra adventure of making muffins for the first time. Page 172: Talked about looking out for Greek or Latin roots in words. We talked about the book example that broke down the word excavation into three separate parts (ex-=out of, cave=hollow, -ation=act or process of) in order to use these roots to determine the meaning of the word. We did the same thing for the word archeology. When broken into archaic (old) and -ology (the study of), we were able to determine archaeology means the study of old things. Tuesday, November 26 Classes

Hello Everyone, Here's what we covered in class: Class Period 0 RWN, Page 320: Since we stopped on #7 last time, we finished the fill-in the blank activity from #8 to #13. Then, from #14-20, we wrote the synonyms of the given words. Class Period 7 RWN, Page 325: Wrote down the misspelled words. Then, found the sentence with a capitalization mistake and wrote the corrected sentence. Finally, we chose the correct multiple choice word for fill-in-the-blank questions. Homework: 1) Write Week 14 Vocabulary #11-20 x4, definitions x1. 2) OKSensay Week 14 Reading Comprehension.

These vocabulary words are multisyllabic, which means they each have more than one syllable (these words have at least three syllables). We completed #1-8 on this page. Hello Everyone, Here's what we covered in class: Class Period 0 Reading Street, Pages 168-170 Page 168-169: We talked about what adventures are and what kind of adventures we have had or can have. Page 170: Talked about what characters are in a story (anyone from the main character to someone who appears and/or talks very briefly). I also talked about what types of traits and qualities characters can have. We also discussed what is plot is in a story (a summary of the main storyline, which includes a conflict, rising action, a climax, and a resolution). Finally, we discussed how to actively read a story. Class Period 7 Reading Street, Page 173: Read "The Cave in the Cliff", a story about a son and his father climbing a mountain and reaching a cliff. Hello Everyone, Here's what we covered in class: Class Period 1 1) Students took the Week 12 Unit Exam 2) RWN, Page 301: We read the passage on this page. Class Period 2 1) RWN, Page 301: Completed the questions about the passage. The questions were all about the usage of who vs. whom. 2) RWN, Pages 298-299: We learned about two different types of graphs: bar graphs (horizontal and vertical lines) and circle graphs (circular with percentages of a whole). Page 298: Answered questions related to a bar graph about the height of men's gymnastic equipment. Page 299: Answered questions related to a circle graph about the popularity of sports among 5th grade students at a school. Hello Everyone, Here is what we covered today: Class Period 0 Reading Street, Pages 136-140:  Page 138: We talked about how to draw conclusions from facts and details we read from the text. Page 139: We read a story about the history of gymnastics, where originated in Greece and expanded to Rome and the rest of Europe, eventually becoming popular in the US beginning in the 1970s. Page 140: Learned about the meaning of the suffixes -ion and -ish. -ion, when attached to the end of other words, means the act or state of being. -ish, when added to the end of other words, means somewhat or like.
